This demo reel showcases my work on a class project titled "The Blacksmith." In creating these scenes, I focused heavily on each environment to craft immersive soundscapes. I started with ADR, incorporating a deeper vocal tone and adding pitch shifting to widen the sound for a more dynamic effect.

For the scene where the main character is surrounded by floating crystals, I recorded a spoon dropped on a concrete floor, which I reversed to produce a whooshing sound for the first crystal. I also used a leather jacket to mimic the Foley of the character twirling a ring.  

As the character stands up, I added a stinger to evoke an eerie mood, along with wind blowing through cracks, crow calls, debris, and wood creaks to enhance the atmosphere.  

For gameplay sounds, I employed similar techniques with ADR, recording myself walking on concrete and using jiggled keys to simulate the character’s tool belt. I synchronized these sounds to match the in-game actions. Additionally, I spent time time-stretching and processing weapon sounds from various sources to create impactful effects.

Overall, "The Blacksmith" aims to provide an engaging experience for players worldwide. I, Nico Valdivia, am proud to present my demo reel featuring my contributions to this immersive project.

I had the privilege of working on a short Minecraft animation for Chase Creatives LLC. I spotted and created all of the sound effects for this short project, and also implemented and mixed the audio for the short animation.  

I loved creating the audio for this project from throwing pans and letting them spin to make a dramatic build for a massive synthesized explosion that I used from Logic pro's Alchemy, I used an inflated rubber stress ball drenched in water to create slime movement.

As the climax of the explosion came I poured sand on concrete to get a debris particle falling. Field recording played a huge factor in this work of art I present to you:

"Creep Grief".

 

In August 2021, I joined Quantum Games as the Lead Sound Effects Designer for their upcoming 2D fantasy adventure, Clarity: The Seven Demons of Vnguardia. This exciting project combines immersive sound design with innovative gameplay, and I’ve been expanding my field recordings to bring this magical world to life.
